B24 939 Destroyed on Johnston Island on 21 october 1944 prior to takeoff for Kwajalein. While undergoing minor repairs in the morning, fuel whch had leaked into the bomb bay was ignited by what was beliefed to be a short circuit of the wires in the fuel transfer system. The squadron’s navigation maps and all of the records of the Ordnance Department were lost. No one was injured.
